3 Designer Approved Design & Organization Tips for Entertaining

Many of us are planning our holiday schedules this time of year — where we’ll be going and what events we’d like to host. Family dinners, parties with friends, gift exchanges, potluck meals; the holidays tend to be one celebration after another!

So today, I’m sharing 3 tips for stress-free entertaining by creating a home that caters to everyday use and special events.

1. Select Furnishings with Multi-Functional Storage Options

Storage can be practical and beautiful. For example, consider having a credenza, storage tower, sideboard, or display case. These pieces add to the room's design and offer storage for those special-event items like linens, serving ware, silverware, and fine crystal.

Multi-functional storage allows you to neatly store items you primarily use for special events while keeping them conveniently accessible for short-notice impromptu gatherings.

2. Plan Your Space for Multiple Seating Arrangements

Part of your advance planning should include having a meaningful seating plan. Take your home layout into account. Where will people tend to gather? What spaces will comfortably accommodate varying group sizes?

Consider incorporating chairs from other rooms, adding table extensions, ottomans, poofs, and benches for additional seating. And if that still doesn’t accommodate your needs, inexpensive folding chairs from Target or Ikea can be an option.

For hosting outdoors, extend your living space with a custom outdoor retreat.

3. Decorate with Thoughtful Seasonal Accessories

Adding those seasonal touches has a way of making everything more special and festive. This type of décor should be used thoughtfully and sparingly as an enhancement.

When it comes time to store seasonal décor, we suggest creating bins and labels before those items get taken down. By taking the time to methodically organize on the front end, taking them out in the future will be less of a disorganized, messy chore!
