3 Top Design Tips for Cozy Yet Organized Interiors

Have you ever walked into a home and felt an instant warmth and coziness? Creating your own cozy sanctuary is very much within reach with a few small touches.

Simply clearing the clutter alone can instantly bring peace and warmth into the home. Options that bring in the cozy aesthetic include soft lighting, texture, matching/complementary colors, photos/prints, candles, and even strategically placed plants.

Today, I’m sharing my favorite ways to create a cozy sanctuary in your home…

1. Introduce Cozy Texture

Swapping (not adding) items with soft or natural textures can immediately add that coziness factor. Introducing throws in knit or cashmere, soft drapery, pillows, faux fur elements can soften a room.

Draping a throw over the end of a bed or sofa adds a special warmth and coziness to a room. Or consider putting your most stylish throws on display in a lovely woven basket or blanket ladder. Seasonally swapping out accessory pillows can dramatically change the look and feel in almost any room.

2. Opt for Naturally Warm Tones

Colors and Patterns are essential to beautiful interiors. They play a supporting role in creating feelings of warmth, such as warm neutrals, earthy hues, and other naturally warm tones. For example, if your living area has hardwood floors, a large area rug can instantly soften and warm up the space through color and texture.

Complementary accessories can also include natural tones found in leather and rattan. The goal is to make your house feel lived in, relaxed, and homier.

3. Warm Scents Bring Cozy Feelings

It’s no secret that scent has the power to evoke feelings of coziness and belonging. “Warm" candle scents can do wonders, such as amber, cedar, cinnamon, vanilla, sandalwood, and other spice-inspired scents.

Other scents to consider during warm months are tropical, fruity, light florals, or zesty citrus. Low lighting is excellent, but candles add that special warmth and glow. Just remember to blow them out before you go out! If this is a concern, faux flickering candles can provide a good alternative.

You’ll be surprised by how just a few of these simple touches and swaps can inspire feelings of warmth and belonging without needing to layer in a thousand extra pillows, blankets, and décor. There are so many factors and options that give your home warmth. The choices you make can be a beautiful expression of your unique personality!
